Welcome

Hi. I’m Aaron. I design stuff. If you’re here, it means you probably went to check slickpixel.com. First of all, thanks for being interested. Unfortunately, SlickPixel had become stagnant. I felt that I needed to justify my presence on the web by having a site that was dynamic and actually had something to offer. A two year old, stale site wasn’t it.

I have been thinking a lot about what I want SlickPixel to become. I have some really big plans which, when mixed with procrastination and anal retentiveness, mean big timelines. Which brings us both here. The SlickPixel blog site. This site will offer more up to date content, and serve as a nice replacement until the new full SlickPixel site is completed.

I hope you enjoy, and if not, you can always visit my old site here.

Pops is Good for Business

This is a chart of activity and hits on my site. For those who didn't already know, daddy is WAY more popular than I am. Check out the spike in visits after his video was posted.

Dad's Thank You

David "Chunk" Gibson - Lung Transplant

As most of you may know, at 7:11 p.m. Thursday evening, daddy got the call that there was a donor available for his lung transplant. He and mom hauled butt to Charlottesville and dad went under the knife at about 1:00 a.m. Momma, Sarah and I tossed and turned in the waiting room until about 7:00 a.m. when we got a call that the surgery went well and daddy had a new lung.

They wanted to put in two new lungs, but it took about 2 hours to get out daddy's right lung, whereas it usually takes about 20 minutes to remove a lung. The doctor's couldn't afford to risk putting that much stress for that lung on the sole new lung while trying to remove his left lung. While daddy may still have his "bad" left lung, it was doing most of the work before the surgery anyway.

Throughout the process, daddy has consistently surprised us with how well he has handled the surgery and recovery. He was responsive and aware mere hours after the surgery when we were told he'd be out for days while they had the breathing tube in. Since then, they've removed most of the breathing assistance and he's been moving about and progressing faster and better than I think anybody has really anticipated.

Although all has gone well so far, he is far from being out of the woods. He is still at risk of infection and rejection of the new lung. As daddy mentioned in his video message, he'll have to be very conservative with visitors and social activity for a bit after surgery. But all the concern and prayers have been a real blessing and we couldn't thank everybody enough.

If you have any other questions or concerns for Chunk, just contact me, mom, or Sarah. Thanks again!

I wanted to pass along a really cool video that Jason was kind enough to send my way. I just think this is the coolest thing:

Reactions

Here are just a few of the reactions I got after shaving my head.

Around the Shop

Last weekend I decided to explore my in-law's mechanic shop in search of some design inspiration. I've posted what I think are the more interesting images in a set on my Flickr page. Check 'em out and let me know if you find any of this as interesting as I do.

Service with a sneer

Carter went to the post office yesterday and came back with one of the longest receipts I've ever seen.

MINI-MEeting

Lindsay took this random shot of me and Karl hanging out at my desk. Amanda said I should put it on the site, and since I've got nothing else worth posting, here it is. Two bald guys hanging out. I've also had two people say I look like mini-me, so let me know if you think that's the case.

Friends Keeping it Fresh

I noticed today that two of my talented friends have updated their sites, so I wanted to give a big shout out to both and let 'em know that I dig it. Coincidentally, both sites now incorporate music that had me bobbin' the melon to the groove today.

Check 'em out:

Those Crazy Gibsons

Amanda and I have decided to mix things up a bit with new do's. No Photoshopping was used in the creation of these haircuts.

Dear Poison Ivy

Dear Poison Ivy,

You have made my week a living hell, and I hate you. I don't care if I never see you again.

Hugs & Kisses,
